The TOY48 2-In-1 tool by virtue of its name, would appear to be usable only on vehicles manufactured by Toyota. However, since there are numerous manufacturers that incorporate Toyota locking systems in their designs, the TOY48 can be used in other vehicles as well.
It may come as a surprise that KIA utilizes Toyota’s locking systems for some of their vehicles. The KIA Soul is one such vehicle as it uses the TOY48 keyway that incorporates a 4 track high security design. This design is further characterized by the use of split wafers which means that the TOY48’s quad lifters are perfect to pick and decode the KIA Soul’s locks.
As is the case with the TOY48’s cousin the HON66, this tool must be used to first pick the Soul’s lock to the 2:00 o’clock position and then to the fully rotated position to ensure accurate reading. This is required due to the left hand split wafers getting caught in the right hand wafers locking channel. This design also means that when the pick is released after fully picking, the lock will return to the 2:00 o’clock position requiring the user to pick the lock back to the 12:00 o’clock position when removing the pick.
This adaptation of the Toyota TOY48 key system by Kia demonstrates the incredible multipurpose uses of Original Lishi Tools.
